ABOUT CQA
Founded in 2012, Central Queens Academy Charter School (CQA) is a tuition-free middle school serving approximately 400 scholars across grades 5-8 from primarily low-income, immigrant families. CQA was founded with a specific focus on improving academic and life outcomes for English Language Learners (ELL) and recent immigrant populations. Our student body represents nearly 30 home countries and 75% speak a language other than English at home.
CQA's aims to prepare 100% of our scholars, 80% of whom would be first-generation college-going, for college success. We do this by combining a nurturing, enriched school culture with a rigorous, college preparatory academic program in a small school environment.
The hard work of our students and faculty have produced proven success. For five consecutive years CQA's scholars have outperformed their city, state and home district peers on the New York State mathematics and English Language Arts exams. CQA was also named a Reward School by New York State Education Department twice, a distinction awarded to only the top 5% of public schools statewide.
SPRING GALA
Join us on Tuesday, May 7th for our annual Spring Gala at SECOND at the Eventi Hotel in Manhattan. The evening, which celebrates the accomplishments of CQA's scholars, includes a cocktail reception and seated dinner, student speakers, and an exciting live auction. Funds raised will support our school and our 400 deserving scholars.
